I can't believe that my babe, who will be 5 years old tomorrow, takes Karate.
He started a few weeks ago, and he absolutely loves it.
For anyone who knows Matt, this is the perfect activity for him.
It's definitely an appropriate channel for his energy!
I just love to watch him at his lessons.
While you may think I am a complete dork,
I even like washing and ironing his uniform.
This is kind of ironic, because for the most part, I loathe ironing.
Thankfully I never have much to iron, with the exception of our Sunday church clothes, or as Matt puts it our fancy church clothes.
While we dress up a bit for church, our attire is never fancy!
Matt is just a tee-shirt and sweat pants kind of guy so whenever he doesn't want to wear something besides his sweats, he calls it fancy church clothes.
I don't think khakis and a polo shirt meet the "fancy" requirement at all.
Today I am flooded by the feeling ,that while Matt is still my baby,
he just isn't a baby anymore.
Quite honestly, he has never wanted to be a baby at all.
He has always wanted to keep up with the big kids!
Five years ago was his due date, and I knew he would enter this world very soon.
He did just that, he was born on Sunday, April 6th.
He has been fighting ever since.
Fighting in a good, happy, energetic sense that is!

You IRON it?! My kid would totally be going to karate looking like he slept in it.
What a handsome little dude! *sigh* I'm not ready for Liv to grow up either. ugh.
He looks angelic in this picture! I love it. He is an angel! I can't believe he is five tomorrow, but in some ways he seems like he is 15. I sympathize with the way you are feeling. It is hard to see them grow up. But on the upside, he is well behaved and independent. He still will always be your baby!!!!
Happy Birthday! I've often thought karate would be a good outlet for my almost 5 years old. But then I worry it would just teach him more ways to inflict injury to his brother.
He looks so cute it that! Haoppy Birthday, Matt!
Happy Birthday to your baby, and Happy Birthing Day to you, Momma! He is such a handsome little boy - well done! Hope you all have a wonderful day!
What a great picture. He's such a cutie!
Iron? What's that?
He is too cute! They grow too quickly don't they?
Thanks for kind words about my brother Amy.
Your son looks great in his karate uniform. My kids took karate for a little while and they loved it!
Happy birthday to your son!
Kimmy
Happy Birthday Matt.
That's cool that he's digging the Karate. I'm sure it's a good outlet for energy.
Happy birthday to your big boy!
Yes, a good outlet for energy
Oh, by the way - per your comment on my blog - my husband is gone for 15 months. The thing she set her house on fire with? Where can I get mine!
Happy Birthday Matt!
Oh, how cute is he in his big-kid karate duds!!!! Gosh, he's handsome, like his big brother. BUT, and I mean this Amy JEAN Kelly--he still has a tiny bit of that little boy look about him. Even with the big boy birthday tomorrow, he will ALWAYS be your baby :)!!!!
♥ He looks so cute in his outfit! I'd like my son to do karate when he's older!
Happy Birthday!
THey grow up so fast. Lovely that he has found something he really enjoys.
He's adorable. As are all your kids.
And I echo your heartache about children growing.up.too.fast.
Heidi
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YEW,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YEW!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR MATTY,
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW!
Have a wonderful birthday, Big Guy--turning SIX is a BIG DEAL!!!
And, Amy JEAN Kelly? Did you know that EVERYBODY was Kung-Fu Fighting? Yes!!! Those cats WERE fast as lightening. Why, even though it was a LITTLE bit frightening, they fought with EXPERT timing.
Yep, yep. SO proud that this one is from the year I graduated from high school. Time for me to go pick out my new walker. HAHAHA! Have a great time today with Matt's birthday. You know I'll be stalking for pix!
What a cutie - Happy Birthday to your little sweetie - I hope it was wonderful! SEe you soon - Kellan
As a mother of a recently turned 5 year old, I feel your pain and your pride.
KEEP BELIEVING
He looks TOTALLY ready to kick some butt.
Took karate for a little while...never real stuck, but I still wear a Gi or scrubs around the house all the time.
Happy Birthday to your little dude!
And I can't believe you iron his uniform. I just pull Emma's straight from the dryer. I hate ironing more than any other household chore. Hate it!
LOVE this pic. Such intensity!! Karate is such a great way to focus energy.
Hallie :)
I want to take Karate.
Aw. He's lovely!
You're supposed to iron those things? No wonder my poor boys always looked so terrible lol.
Oh and happy birthday to your little man!
I told you I'd be stalking for pix. I am true to my word!!!
Hope you had a good Monday, Amy JEAN Kelly.
very sweet picture! my oldest did karate for almost 3 years and he loved it, it's so great for them!
oh sooooo dashing yet still ninja like :)
Happy Birthday!! My boy will be 5 this summer. I can't believe it! We want to have him try Martial Arts, but I'm still afraid he's a little young (and not quite tough enough LOL!)
My five year old would be absolutely GREEN with envy if he saw that picture!! But if my five year old was in karate my three and one year olds would be black and blue! What a great photo.
Good grief... I'm just getting caught up on your blog! You guys are on a birthday spree there! The party looked like fun. That's my kind of party!!
