There's a movement that has been accepted at over 30 colleges and universities across the country known as National Student Genderblind. Proponents of this organization believe that discrimination exists when members of the opposite sex can not cohabitate within campus residences. This issue does not speak to coed dorms or floors/wings or suites within dorms. No it is referring to individual dorm rooms. Advocates of this movement want students of the opposite sex to be able to share rooms. Surely this is not social justice but rather lunacy.
While it is natural to want equality among the sexes, clearly a rational person can acknowledge that there are physical differences between males and females. Genderblind members feel that it is oppressive to deny students the right to live with members of the opposite sex. Unless evolution takes these differences away, they will always exist! Why then would you want to send your child off to college to share a room with a member of the opposite sex? Supporters of this issue say students are going to have sex anyway so why not allow them to live together. This is just wrong. If this argument is used then why not let children drink alcohol, because they will eventually drink it someday! These notions are absurd - just plain stupid!
While this is not the norm at this present time, it is scary to think that it has already gained some acceptance from institutions of higher learner. It is idiotic at best. Check out this article for a further explanation. Is it not the left wing trying to gain support from young people? Why not promote an issue that directly involves them? It's scary, I say.

Oh brother! What will they come up with next? I agree - that's stupid!
Craziness.

Oh.My.Gosh.
Are you kidding me........
(sigh)
Can't we just keep our kids at home FOREVER??
xo Misty
Hehehe...Amy JEAN Kelly! There ya go stirrin' the pot again, and I LOVE IT. Because I agree with you. That is one of the (other) most stupid things I've heard. What next, huh?
weird. as a student i probably would have thought this was sweet. as a parent - not so much. :)
The amount of attention issues like this get from the media and universities horrifies me - because they are feeding the very minds of the impressionable, yet think they know everything young adults. I was there not too long ago and I remember it. How i thought then versus when I started working and paying taxes and contributing back to society a bit and raising my kids in this crazy world is 180 degrees different. Many college kids are not paying their own way let alone their own taxes yet and the left wing media keeps feeding them more and more. It frightens me and that is why, scary enough, Barack will probably win.
KEEP BELIEVING
this is ridiculous. a lot of the things that are emerging in this world are ridiculous. my recent gripe is the way people insist on giving a kid an award for everything. like, every kid. this is teaching them that even if they don't try that hard they'll be rewarded. but this is not going to lead to good, productive adults. the real world is competitive. oh, man. i'm on a soapbox! i agree with a previous poster. i'm keeping my kids home with me forever! ha ha.
Hmm . . . interesting. I have a lot of thoughts on this - is it motivated by homosexual angst in which a hetero kid has to share a room with a homosexual kid?
Also, as a girl, I would not NOT NOT have wanted to share a room with any of the filthy college dudes at my big name university. They were absolute animals . . . I lived in a girl room but in a fraternity house. Yes, that's right, IN a fraternity house. It was unspeakably disgusting.
There are lots of co-ed bathrooms now in dorms which I also don't understand - do you really want to be in the room with a pooping frat guy?
And furthermore, if you ask to room with a specific guy that you're dating, and then you rbeak up, you still have to live with him! That would SUCK SUCK SUCK!
As a mom, I'll admit, the thought of my son sharing a room with a girl doesn't generally bother me. But what I want to know is "why the hell would you want to?"
Amy,
Where do you find these things to worry you!?!
I do agree, It Is STUPID!!!!
I was just wondering if law student hot momma would feel differently if she had a daughter. Just wondering. Just getting some conversation going.
Bizarre. Really, I wouldn't have wanted to be placed with a guy my freshman year. It was scary enough having to share a room with a strange girl. I guess if it's voluntary then whatever, but what parent would be crazy enough to let their child go off to college and live with a member of another gender? Not me!
♥ That's insane! It floors me the things these people come up with!
I know I know I know. This seriously made me crazy when I heard it the first time. NOT a good idea. stupid stupid stupid.
This just makes me crazy - what is the matter with people??? It makes me CRAZY!!!
Have a good evening - Kellan
I'm with Misty. I'm keeping my kids locked in our secret tower.
What will they come up with next?
That's not only crazy, it seems downright BACKWARDS from a progression standpoint!
I have to admit I am pretty liberal but even I, think this is dumb at best, and dangerous at worst. Combine a little alcohol (what? kids drink at college?) and you have potential safety issues among other things.
Thanks for bringing this up as a topic Amy.
For sake of being called crazy here, I kind of get the genderblind dorm thing, but I don't think it should be considered discrimination if there isn't one, but I guess that's what off campus apartments are for. Ok I shot my own theory down. I like, Hot Mama, wouldn't have wanted to live with the opposite sex for the same reasons esp in a dorm. I did the coed apartment thing, but I wasn't a freshman either.
Oh my...
Not good at all.
I can guarantee that my children will not live in such dorms. Besides, what guy wants to live with a girl while she is on her period? And what girl wants to actually live with a sloppy college bachelor? College kids like sex, not marriage. Coed dorms sound too much like marriage. I see it ending in many dorm divorces.
Stupid! I agree
I can't even imagine there are that many students that would want this. I know my college bound son would definitely not be in.
I can say that there is NO way in "HE double hockey sticks" that I would send any of my girls to a school that accepted this idea. Kids will do what they want to do, but we still need to set examples and morals. This is crazy!
