Thoughts for Thursdays

Well I guess I'll blog to this. Please don't think I am so lame that I would bring up the following notion. Here goes.....

I have always thought of myself as a pretty good recycler. Of course I recycle all my newspapers, magazines, boxes, etc. With respect to paper and metal, I recycle almost every item that can possible be recycled. That is almost everything. The two issues I have are:

  1. peanut butter jars
  2. little tomato paste cans

Now, it's not that I don't want to recycle these containers. It's just that it is very time consuming to wash these out. However, the big sticking point I have with these is the amount of water needed to clean them out. I sometimes wonder if it's a wash (no pun intended), once I am finished cleaning them. Additionally, I end up using paper towels to clean them too. John doesn't see this the same as me. He thinks it's no big deal.

You might be reading this and thinking this idea is ridiculous, please let me hear your thoughts. I am totally open to seeing this idea differently. Thanks.

We all know I am not the best recycler. I am putting my best foot forward lately to be better about it. In my opinion, if you consider yourself to be so good at it then do those things!!! Do you throw out your pans when they get tooo greasy? I bet you soak them, right? Why don't you try this technique with these other, not so fun recyclables. Now that I have lambasted you....Please keep in mind that I have just gotten better at recycling and feel much less guilt. Next step....GO Green!!!!

Very inspiring to read that you guys are so dedicated! We throw everything away. YIKES. Now that I think about it... we're really bad.

i recycle, but i know i don't do as well as i could. we actually are going to move our recycle bins inside so it is easier instead of hauling it out to the garage and sorting everything. just get it done right inside. i don't do mayo or peanut butter jars. just not a big fan of scrubbing that slime out of the jars.

oh bonus...we recycle at our workplace now...whoohoo! :)

I dont' recycle either. Very Bad. And really no excuse. My mom has always recycled and don't know how I didn't pick that up when I left home 10 years ago. Hmm. Maybe the whole going to college and living in an apartment for 6 years threw me off. I know, No Excuse. I will seriously put that on my list of things to do! As for washing containers at, I will probably do it, if I'm gonna be dedicated to recycling. Maybe even let it soak for a few hours and then by rinsing it with water, it'll get out on its own?? Hmmm.. You'll have to test it out.
